Be Inspired and Learn Something New
A quick welcome to all new subscribers of the Aminus3 Weekly Photo Prompt.
As you may have read in our about page, we are all about “conscious creativity.”
It is not a stretch to consider how the photos you create are a REFLECTION of yourself at a fixed point in time. All the things going on in your life and in your mind at the moment you pushed that shutter button are forever linked to that image.
What does that actually mean in practice?
It means you can look back through your photos and see patterns or themes that you may not have consciously considered, and then think about what those say about yourself.
An easy way to do that is start with one of your recent photos that you really like, and then consider WHY did you feel inspired to create that image?
Is there something about that subject or setting that has greater meaning to you? Is it the same as the usual things you like to photograph, or something new?
To share a personal example, this is one of my recent photos that I quite like which I created and shared for the “Wonderland” prompt a few weeks ago.
Not only is this photo one of my favorite places and favorite subjects, but even better that this was an atypical morning where I stepped out into the fog to go wandering with camera, rather than settling into my usual routine of sitting down at my computer with a cup of coffee to grind out another work day.
In that sense, this photo REFLECTS to me, the positive benefit of breaking routine, of getting out and doing something different, and the joy of taking time in nature.
Taking this exercise further, I might look back over a few weeks of recent photos to find the ones which catch my interest.
From there, a larger pattern could emerge where I find that many of the photos I created recently that I think are good, also exhibit a similar theme of me going out with my camera unexpectedly, and enjoying a break from routine.
For the prompt this week, you can try this for yourself.
Go back and see if your photos are speaking to you, or REFLECTING something about yourself that you had not considered.
You can also create a new photo with an idea or intention about that thing as a reflection of yourself.
I get that all this may be more conceptual than most people care to endeavor, and in that case, there is still a vast world of reflections around us to explore and photograph.
You might simply just enjoy seeing the world from a new surface or angle.
