Be Inspired and Learn Something New
What type of photographer are you?
Do you wander freely with your camera and allow yourself to be guided by what captures your attention? Or do you plan out your images in advance?
Maybe a little of both?
As with most art forms, photography has the power to go beyond the visual elements in a scene to connect into deeper emotions and energies. One of the easiest ways to incorporate something more symbolic into your photos is with the intentional use of color.
As most of you are already aware, colors have meaning that transcends their visual aesthetic.
That brings us to this week’s prompt of “yellow.”
Unlike the cooling tones of blue, or the fiery energy of red, yellow is a versatile hue.
Sure, it is the color of the sun which brings life to the world, and is generally the cheerful tint of flowers, birds, and bees.

In the modern era, some might be immediately reminded of iconic modes of transport like New York taxis and those big yellow school busses.
Yellow is not all sunshine and daffodils, at some point in the history of humanity, this color took on something of a more negative connotation. Along with feelings of optimism and creativity, the color yellow has also been linked to cowardice, jealousy, and other such sentiments.
Regardless of your associations, it is clear that a single color can create a diverse palette of meaning. This week, think about how you can create a photo that uses the color yellow as an entry to some distinctive emotions and moods.
If you are looking for some inspiration for all things yellow, have a look at the Aminus3 Color page. There you can see thousands of photos featured by their primary color palette with many shades of yellow to be found.
Clicking on one of the color bars will take you to a page of photos for that tone like the bottom bar of this photo featuring yellow color #ED0.

Whether you are planning in advance, or randomly out in the streets with your camera, keep an eye out for novel ways to show us your yellow.
Last Week’s Prompt Photos for “Street”
Did you ever stop to really wonder why *DID* the chicken cross the road?
Streets offer us a depth of stories, and mysteries, and oh hey, a good segue because they often contain hints of yellow too.

With so many incredible photos shared last week for the “Street” prompt, it is challenging to narrow them down to a few highlights. These were some selections, but I highly recommend you check out the links below to discover the rest.
Also thanks this week to Michael Arndt who suggested that these prompts and images would work well in book format. What do y’all think about that? For those of you sharing your photos for the prompts, are you OK with publishing them in a more tangible format such as a book or printed zine? Maybe even a dedicated app / web page where you can browse all the images shared each week in one place?
Let me know in the comments.
