Be Inspired and Learn Something New
The world is a big place full of many cultures, and diverse experiences.
When we travel and immerse ourselves in other places, we are expanding our perceptions and ourselves in the process.
I remember the first time I traveled internationally from the US to Rome for a work trip. I had this weird notion of feeling like a different version of myself in a foreign setting. It wasn't until more international travel and another trip to Rome several years later when it occurred to me that I'm the same person in any place.
I was not just visiting a far-off (for me) city like Rome as an observer, only experiencing the past or history there, but I was also experiencing the life of the place fully in the moment as the person I am anywhere else.
It is a little hard to describe, and maybe it sounds silly to the true globetrotters out there, but this was a revelation of sorts for me at the time.
Photography has this power as well.
Before social media, or even television, we read magazines like “National Geographic” and “Life”, which became a portal for us to experience the world in far off places right from the comfort of home.
Photography is so powerful a medium that we can feel a sense of adventure, and even empathy for others, by just looking at photos without having experienced it firsthand.
That’s a starting point for the prompt this week. You might have a look through your archives to pull up themes around travel, adventure, or celebrating cultural diversity. Imagine a moment that was transformative for you away from home, and share that feeling with the rest of us.
If you would like to get out and create new photos for the prompt this week, I offer this suggestion.
Imagine that someone from across the world is learning about where you are. What type of image would you show them to honor this same energy of expanding their horizons with new experiences from where you live?
It doesn't have to be the typical tourist things, better if not. What kind of unique moments, places, or celebrations could you share?
Give it some thought and share some “Globetrotting” pics with us!
Last Week’s Prompt Photos for “Intersection”
The Intersection photo prompt was an excellent study in the way a single photo can contain multiple layers of meaning from the literal to symbolic.
While some were fairly straight forward.
Others started to get a little more ambiguous.
The notion of perspective and relativity was apparent.
and illustrate the intersections we can find by looking upward. Not all intersections were clean and pristine. Some were a little messier, or as
brilliantly described the palm in her photo as “gorgeously complex.”
A few people explored the fuzzy intersection between “reality” and reflections.
We also found ourselves at the intersection of old and new. History and modernity.
shared her thoughts on how music intersects in our lives with this metaphorical and literal crossing of the cellists. As a lead-in to this week’s “Globetrotter” prompt, and in the spirit of diverse cultures coming together in celebration, here is a beautiful moment photographed by
from a gathering in Santa Fe, New Mexico. As he writes :
“Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I live is a year-round intersection of cultures: Native, Spanish, Mexican, Chicano, Latin, and Anglo. Every July Santa Fe hosts the International Folk Arts Market which brings artisans and craftspeople and performers from around the world.”

That guy in the photo at the top was photographed in Rome on my fateful second trip, where a puzzle piece of my self identity fell into place.
That photo was posted 21 years ago on my photoblog / Aminus3 site. Been a long time since, but those seeds of ideas still continue to grow. Pretty cool!
While you are still here… on a side note, this week’s prompt represents completion in a way, and it is in fact a completion of a project I've been hoping to share with you all for a while now.
I am sad for it to finish as it has been insightful for me to see it realized, and yet, it is not quite ready for prime time, and so I will hold off fully announcing it for a little while longer. Suffice to say, the prompts over the last 5 months or so have been following a framework of sorts which I'm looking forward to talking about some more when a few other pieces fall into place.
And so I leave you with that mysterious teaser, you can revisit the archive page to look at the prompts from that period, and perhaps connect the dots. Feel free to share your fan theories with me on what its all been about!
@Aminus3 Photography - prompt - “Globetrotting” - health problems have prevented me from travelling since the 1980’s.
The United Kingdom has so much history, Cities, Towns, and Landscapes. For the Globetrotting prompt, I include one my favourite places …
A perfect spot to watch the spectacle of twilight, dawn and sunrise.
Thanks for the mention, I always look forward to your Saturday post and being able to view all the submissions. 🙏
