Be Inspired and Learn Something New
Life is made up of transitions. Doors closing, and new ones opening. These moments can be disruptive and difficult depending on which side of the doorway you are on.
And yet, each ending leads us to a new place, a new beginning. Each transition presents an opportunity to create something fresh.
As in life’s transitions, some doorways are more impressive than others. Large and solid, or flimsy curtains that barely separate the space between.
Have you ever walked into a room and forgot why you went in there? In a previous prompt, we talked about how the simple act of walking through a doorway can reset your brain from one space to another.
In myth and lore, doorways serve as a gateway between the known and familiar, into unknown adventure, challenges, and even triumph.
All worth considering as you go out looking for the gateways and portals in your life.
What kind of doorways will you be drawn to photograph this week, and what will those photos reflect back to you?
Give it some thought and share some photos with us on Aminus3 or Substack.
Spin us “Upside Down”
Last week’s prompt was a lot of fun. Not only were there some seriously creative photos that were shared, but also a number of intriguing ideas, insights, and philosophies in there as well.
Like the break dancer photo below by
, who wrote:“This is quite an important shot for me. It ended up being very lucrative when I was a freelancer. I did the shot for free at a youth arts celebration event in Leeds and submitted the shot to the organisers. They loved it and it paved the way for LOTS of paid work!”
A perfect segue from upside down to DOORS opening! And goes to show how things don’t always evolve in a linear way, but taking a detour, or following the zigs and zags of life can lead to unexpected opportunities.
Below that, hanging legs from
seemed a good match for Paul’s inverted dancer. writes about the chameleon quality of cars and their ability to go in “stealth mode” in their surroundings, along with photo from Venice just before Carnival when things seem peaceful, though perhaps some trickster energy lies in the colorful facade underneath. This intriguing portrait from
paired nicely with a lensball rendering of the city lights in New Caledonia by Manola. On the portrait image, Luz writes:“If you ask me, I don’t know how I did this. I just saw that the photo was upside down when I downloaded the card. I was in a cafe photographing the reflection of my son that shone in the top of the cafe table. He was looking at his phone. I quite liked it this way, so it always stayed like this!😊”

I get the impression that a lot of the people who are sharing photos for the prompts each week are going back through the archives. For me personally, the prompts do provide an opportunity to revisit my old images with new intention. Though these prompts are also there to inspire you throughout the week while out on photo walks or snapping away.
I was happy to see these photos from
which he noted were taken on a recent photo walk with “Upside Down” in mind.I hope that the prompts provide some creative incentive to see things a little different, or try a photo you might not have considered.
I’ll leave you with some final thoughts from
, which eloquently connects together ideas from last week’s prompt, and this latest as well.See all the photos shared on Aminus3 for last week’s Upside Down prompt.

I believe this was a bus stop hut at one point since it is 5 feet from the road.
Ha. Thank you. Not my particularly favorite photos that I've taken, but I am a big believer in constant output as a priority. Can't fight subpar lighting with much other than being creative and having fun. Also, relaxing the perfectionism from time to time. You got some excellent submissions here for this prompt!
Doorways... I'll have to think about it! Cheers~
