A few people last week tapped into an idea of the way letters have meaning not on their own, but because we collectively have assigned and agreed on those meanings.
That goes for extremely long and nearly unpronounceable words too.
Even when those letters are another language or alphabet from our own, we get hints from other design choices like colors and shapes.
That brings us to the photography prompt this week: Abstract
Going in the opposite direction, we disassociate with photographing definitive things that have a collective meaning in exchange for something more personal and obscure.
By zooming in, blurring out, or any other manner of visual abstraction, the known becomes nebulous.
We can create something as muddled and dreamy as we’d like, or orient into something more familiar. Not unlike letters, a good abstract image can hint at something more concrete.
Those of you in the USA might use the opportunity to try out your powers of abstraction on the local fireworks this weekend and see what creations unfold.
