Be Inspired and Learn Something New
Most everyone who has ever taken an introduction to photography class knows the prime directive is the “Rule of Thirds.” This edict teaches you to compose the subjects in your photos on an evenly spaced grid which helps to create a visual harmony.
Lessor known is the little cousin of the Rule of Thirds called, “The Rule of Odds”.
Rather than intentional visual harmony, the idea of photographing an odd number of subjects creates an imbalance that makes your images a little more compelling.
This week we will focus on one specific odd number, threes.
We can find threes all over everything.
From the Trinity in Christianity to the balancing of body, mind and spirit; the power of three is palpable.
In photography, you can combine three subjects to create tension, visual interest, and a little fun.
Keep threes in mind as you are out with the camera this week. Show us what you’ve created in the comments, Substack notes, or on your Aminus3 website.
Last Week’s Prompt Photos for “Wet”
When I created last week’s “Wet” prompt, I didn’t imagine that the whole week would be one sloshy endless grey rainy day.
Looks like I was not the only one under water.
But just like April showers bring May flowers, wet days invite creative photography opportunities as you can see in some of the images shared this week.
shared this poignant historical moment from another USA election year, 1968, days before the explosive Democratic Convention in Chicago.See all the photos shared for last week’s Wet prompt.
For the curious who made it this far, this post was inspired by a discussion with
in his recent Substack post, “Three Backsides…”.
And a poignant wet photograph by Marianne Goldsmith!
Kudos, Aminus. You did it. 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
