Postcards from the World!
Before we get into the prompt for this week, I wanted to share this fantastic collection of 99 postcard themed photos shared by 34 photographers from 15 countries1.
As mentioned in the previous newsletter, we created a special interactive gallery to show off these “Postcards from the World”.
You can see a preview of the Aminus3 Postcards from the World 2024 photo gallery.
Please support the photographers who posted these “Postcards from the World” this week by visiting and sharing the link to the full gallery.
To read about where the photo was created, flip the postcards by clicking on the photo to see the back. You will also find a link to each photographer’s page where you see more of their images and leave a comment.
In addition to the online gallery we plan to print these as postcards to share with several youth organizations who teach kids about world cultures. More on that in a future update.
This Week’s Prompt: Luminous
I was recently reading the excellent newsletter of
. If you have never seen his incredible photography, you should go have a look. It is not so much light painting as he seems to be sculpting reality around luminous explosions of shapes and color.Light painting is one of those photography techniques I always want to try more, but don’t seem to find the time or place to experiment.
Whenever I do, I enjoy the results that can be had with a good background and a few simple motions with a portable LED lamp. Also recommended is a steady tripod so you can set the camera for a long exposure. This photo from an evening in Brussels was a 15 second exposure.
Of course for those of us in the northern hemisphere, the days are still long and not so conducive to painting with light in dark skies.
There are other ways to portray the idea of luminous into your photos in any season.
A shallow depth of field and some colorful flowers are a good start, or perhaps an opportunity to photograph some colorful fireworks will find you this week.
Have fun and experiment!
There were 98 photos from 33 photographers and 14 countries posted on Aminus3.com and one photo here on Substack from Youssef Yousssef bringing us up to 99 photos / 34 photographers / 15 countries.
